AI Will Kill the Writer's Creativity Unless...
Humans are naturally inclined towards shortcuts. If there’s an easier way, we’ll take it.
The allure of using a Gen AI tool to write an entire article or book is strong. After all, AI can churn out content faster and more eloquently than we can. It's excellent at research and perfect for checking grammar.
But it lacks something crucial: authenticity. Your unique voice. AI-generated content might look good, but it doesn’t feel like you.
Take my writing, for example. My words are raw, brutally honest, and often politically incorrect. In contrast, AI writing is typically positive without the negative, diplomatically phrased, and as polished as academic writing.
Feeling insecure about your writing might tempt you to hand over the reins to AI. But in the long run, this could stifle your critical thinking and erode your confidence in your voice.
Instead of letting AI take over completely, consider a collaborative approach.
Here’s how:
- Feedback: Use AI to get feedback on your work. Ask it to evaluate your writing and suggest areas for improvement.
- Collaboration: If you’re unsure how to start or finish, ask AI for help. For instance, have it draft an introduction or conclusion, then rewrite those sections in your own words.
- Proofreading: Finally, let AI proofread your work to catch any errors.
This way, you’re maintaining a 50-50 partnership. Don’t let AI do all the work. Brainstorm ideas, get feedback to ensure your arguments are balanced, rewrite in your own voice, and use AI for that final polish.
By working with AI rather than letting it take over, you preserve your creativity and keep your voice authentically yours.
Key Points:
- Embrace the collaborative approach: Balance your creativity with AI's efficiency.
- Preserve your unique voice: AI can help, but don’t let it replace your personal touch.
- Build confidence: Use AI as a tool to enhance, not overshadow, your writing skills.
This way, you can leverage AI's strengths while staying true to your authentic voice.
