How to Create a Business You Love
Many wealthy individuals share a common trait: they are business owners. They often start with one venture and then expand to multiple businesses. With the abundance of free internet resources available, anyone can start an online business with little to no initial investment. All you need is a laptop with internet access, dedication, and a drive for success. So, where do you begin? I'll introduce you to the concept of ikigai, a Japanese philosophy that helps you find purpose and joy in life. It's the intersection of four circles:
- Talent: Your natural abilities
- Love: What you're passionate about
- Need: What the world needs
- Paid: What you can be paid for
Here's how I applied this concept to find my ideal business: I considered the lifestyle I wanted and what I enjoyed doing. I listed my criteria and narrowed down my options. For instance:
- I wanted to be a digital nomad, so I needed a business that could be done remotely. Offline training and talks were out, but Zoom and online stores were viable options.
- I wanted to deliver results quickly, so I opted for writing articles and non-fiction eBooks over writing a memoir.
- Since I prefer writing to speaking, I focused on developing my writing skills rather than becoming a public speaker.
With many platforms to choose from, I selected Facebook as my primary platform. I also chose to build a community through a Facebook Group and decided to start by selling eBooks, with plans to expand to courses in the future. By combining my strengths, such as writing, publishing, GEN AI prompting, software skills, and community-building, I pieced together a business model that suits my personality and skills: a Facebook Group + eCommerce store. You have numerous options, so use your selection criteria to narrow down your choices to one. Choosing a business is like choosing a life partner; it's a significant decision that requires careful consideration.
